Aa | as in the word “ask”, or “able” |
Bb | same as in English |
Cc | like “s” before “i” or “e”, otherwise like "k” in Creole. |
Dd | same as in English. silent after l, n or r and before t or s. |
Ee | as in “elevated” , “a” before “g” |
Ff | same as in English |
Gg | like “i” after a vowel, like “s” in “pleasure” in some foreign words. Silent in “ig” at the end of a word. |
Hh | as in English like “Holiday” |
Ii | as in the word “ink”, never as in the word “island” |
Jj | like “y” as in “yes”. |
Kk | same as in English although rare. |
Ll | like “l” in “life”. |
Mm | same as in English |
Nn | same as in English |
Oo | same as in English “Old” never as in “Hot” which is pronounced somehow like {hat} |
Pp | ame as in English |
as in “kw” | |
Rr | like the English in “brother” but rougher. |
Ss | same as in English |
Tt | same as “t”, sometimes as in “d”. |
Uu | as in the “ultra”, never as in the word “up” or “university” |
Vv | sounds like a “b” |
Ww | as in “v”. |
Xx | as “ks”. |
Yy | same as in English. |
Zz | as in “s”. |
ch | like “tsh” |
ng | as in the n of “new” |
å | like in “au” in taught |
ø | like “eu” or the letter “e” in French. |
æ | sound like “ey” in “ache” |
