Dutch Alphabet

Dutch is spoken by 20 million speakers mainly in the Netherlands and Belgium, some small Dutch-speaking communities in northern France. Also in Aruba, the Netherlands Antilles, Suriname and in Indonesia. Below are the Dutch Alphabet with has some slightly different pronunciation and an additional letter.

B | bay | As 'b' in boy, like “p” at the end of the word. |
C | say | As 's' before i, e and y; as 'k' in 'cat' before a, o, u and consonants |
D | day | As 'd' in 'Dutch' but as 't' at the end of the word |
E | ay | As in “met” |
F | ef | As in “Fish” |
G | khay | As in the Scottish loch, or Spanish jota “khota” |
H | hah | As in “Hand” or “Holland” |
I | ie | As in “Ink” |
J | yay | “y” as in “you” and not as “J” in “Job” |
K | kah | As in “Kiss” |
L | el | As in “Language” |
M | em | As in “Moon” |
N | en | As in “Netherlands” |
O | oh | As in “Old” |
P | pay | As in “Poland” |
Q | kuuh | As in “Queen” |
