In French as well as in English, prepositions relate two parts of a sentence, they have invariable forms and are followed by their object, for example: avec elle (with her), après vous (after you),
They are placed in front of the noun in order to indicate a relationship between that noun and the verb, an adjective or another noun that precedes it, l’étudiant écrit avec un stylo = the student writes with a pen.
The prepositions à, pour, and de can precede an infinitive just like the role of “to” before infinitives in English, examples:
Désolé de te déranger (sorry to bother you)
Je veux apprendre le français pour devenir un prof = I want to learn French to become a teacher.
The preposition de is also used to express (possession, origin, or quantity)
La maison de ma tante (the house of my aunt)
Elle est originalement de Paris(she is originally from Paris)
un litre de lait (a liter of milk).
Below are some more prepositions, each one has its own meaning that you need to memorize.
